Our Brand Story !

Founder
A Dream that sees the light.
India is a country of intense, rich art that flows through the blood of every Indian no matter where they be. It may be as a creator or as an admirer. When my mother started her journey under the canopy of coconut trees in her backyard, in a remote village of Maharashtra, at the age of fourteen, little did she know that she would be bringing so much joy to the world, through her art, in the years to come.Started as an escape from the cruel reality of her world, she found solace in stitching bags, frocks out of her old clothes and those of her siblings. Saving her meagre pocket allowance, she would later spend it on threads, beads and embroidery supplies. Hours spent silencing the cacophony in her mind, days dissolved keeping people at bay and weeks lived figuring happiness out of threads and shreds.
The courage to live translated into the passion to create something special is what Prism Creations stands for. It’s a very personal brand with immense emotional value. We intend to provide the same to our customers. An absolute personal experience in wearing traditional Indian wear for any or no occasion. The colour, fabric, style, pattern is yours to choose and ours to paint into reality. We all are unique in how we feel, think, the choices we make and the dreams we work so hard towards. How about what you wear depicting the same uniqueness?
At Prism Creations, with the available handmade portfolio stemming from my mother’s mind, we are there to create exactly what you ask for. Here’s me wearing a yellow organza saree with pastel shades. That’s exactly what I had asked my mother to create for me last Diwali. She got the exact shade dyed to a white organza saree, cross-checking the number of that shade with me, ran across the markets of Mumbai to get the perfect lace and decorative material to create a piece more beautiful than I could have imagined. She intends to do the same for every woman who reaches out.
Saree for me
When my mother got married, my granny had asked her to shift from Punjabi suits to sarees. That’s what my mother did for more than a decade till my granny decided it didn’t matter what she chose to wear. Hence, saree has a special place in my heart. The soft cotton sarees my mother wore had the most peculiar warmth. A peddler from a village in Kolkatta used to visit us every few months with these cotton sarees. My sister and I would fight over who would get them in their end state as hair towels or a layer on top of handmade quilts. Till date we use the quilts made from those sarees.
During festivals and family functions, my mother would opt for the traditional kind. Those would mostly be of silk or some variation of it. The all favourite Paithani from Maharashtra with exquisite peacocks on the hem felt like a treasure. The intricate band of golden threads for the border would distinguish it from the rest. She would preserve this look for the most important or should I say personal occasions. My sister has already claimed her right on the magenta pink Paithani with deep red and gold border my mum owns once she decides to give it away.
With synthetic fibers coming into picture and use of machines, it was easier to get a variety of sarees, affordable and easy to maintain for a longer time. Without realising my mother added chiffon, georgette and other such fabrics booming in the market to her wardrobe. Not having travelled beyond Maharashtra back then, she had limited knowledge of the traditional handloom specialities across the country. However, she wouldn’t leave a chance to buy a Kanjeevaram, a Benaras silk, a Mysore silk, a Bandhani or a Patola whenever she would come across one at exhibitions or handloom expos.

Proud Daughter

That’s where my fondness for this attire comes from; having seen my mother adorn them like a Goddess and hoping to be like her some day. I couldn’t wait to drape into one myself. I did it for the first time during my school farewell. I loved the feeling. Since then I haven’t left a single opportunity to cover myself in this long, silky piece of goodness. May it be intimate weddings in the family or festive days at work, you would find me in one. She bought me my first saree for my cousin’s wedding. Today I have my own collection of half a dozen sarees in silk, kota, net. The yellow organza saree is the first one which she designed for me. I am wondering what’s going to be the next one she does.
My Mother & Prism Creations:
I have a confession to make. To me Prism Creations is about making my mother’s art reach the nooks and corners of this world. To my mother it is about service. That’s what she has done all her life. As a teen she taught the children in her village free of cost, helped the workers in her farms as much as she could. May it be picking vegetables, segregating them, weaving dried coconut leaves to name some of those activities she performed so humbly. When she got married and couldn’t pursue a career in education, she coached students at home for twenty plus years with minimal fees. That’s in her DNA, to give all that she can to all those who need. She has just added one more stream to do so.
The idea to start this stemmed from the same yellow organza saree I have mentioned a couple of times now. When I met my friends that day, they appreciated it. One of them candidly asked, “Will your mother make one for me?” I replied enthusiastically, “Why not!” Since then I pondered how to make it happen. Took me a year to usher the courage to discuss it with my mentor who happens to be my uncle and my mother. It was during Ganesh Chaturthi last year that we spoke about it. My mother signed up for it right away! A few months into planning and ideation, ushering people who felt the same zeal as we did and Prism Creations was born. We are simple people with just family and friends for support. The privilege of having strong connections in the business world is currently non-existent. But we have decided to try. Every day we wake up and do the best thing possible. Our portfolio, website, logo, content are all designed in-house by family, friends and friends of friends who believe in us. Our workshop is our home today but we intend to move into a dedicated space soon. We have onboarded few freelancers and hope to see the team grow as the business does. If you order from us, you will get a product made by my mother and her accomplice (who is a friend too), packed in a box designed by an old friend, procured from a vendor searched and assigned by my sister and deposited to the courier company by my father.
